Export registrations for food, spices and agri exporters

By the Import Export Advisor advisory teamLast updated

Food and agri exporters in India need the standard IEC, ICEGATE and AD Code, plus registration with the right commodity body: APEDA for most processed food and agri products, or the Spices Board for spices, which also serves as the RCMC. Many shipments also need phytosanitary or health certificates, depending on the product and destination.

Which body should a food exporter register with?

APEDA covers most processed foods, fruits, vegetables, cereals and similar products. The Spices Board covers spices. Marine products, tea, coffee and tobacco have their own boards.

Which certificates do food shipments need?

Plant products usually need a phytosanitary certificate, and many processed foods need a health or quality certificate accepted by the importing country. Requirements vary by destination, so check them before quoting a buyer.

Which incentives apply to food exports?

Most food and agri products with a notified rate are eligible for RoDTEP, and drawback applies where duty-paid imported inputs such as packaging are used.
